Green Roofs

Green roofs or “living roofs” are roofs on buildings that are covered (partially or fully) with vegetation.  Green roofs serve several purposes such as absorbing rainwater (reducing runoff), insulation and lowering air temperatures.  They can also serve to reduce the breakdown of roofing material by providing a protective barrier to the roof membrane from sunlight.    The term “green roof” can also be used to indicate roofs that use some form of green technology such as roofs with solar collectors.
